In January 2016, Sarah Hyland stepped out at three Los Angeles events wearing three distinctly different evening sandals, showing how changing the shoe can completely alter the mood of an outfit.

From glittering Giuseppe Zanotti “Gwyneth” sandals at the Screen Actors Guild Awards to Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals at Disney’s Minnie Rocks the Dots celebration and crystal-covered Brian Atwood “Avice” heels at a People’s Choice Awards after-party, each look paired a different silhouette with a different occasion.

While some of these styles have since become archival pieces, others remain influential references in luxury footwear, making the lineup just as interesting today as when it first appeared.

The style stakes were high at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards, but Sarah Hyland once again proved that she can give other Hollywood A-listers a run for their money.

The navy dress featured lace detailing and black trimming at the bodice and had a thigh-high slit — giving the actress an opportunity to pull off Angelina Jolie’s famous leg pose.

Playful Polka Dots: Sarah Hyland Styles Stuart Weitzman “Nudist” Sandals With Line Dot

Sarah Hyland often wears edgy and revealing ensembles on the red carpet, but in January 2016 she decided to show off her fun and playful style at the Minnie Rocks the Dots Art and Fashion Exhibit held in Los Angeles.

The petite actress wore a spotted sheer white long-sleeved blouse and matching shorts by Line Dot to celebrate National Polka Dot Day.

The sheer blouse was layered over a white cropped camisole for subtle coverage, while the coordinating ruffled shorts balanced the airy silhouette by putting her legs in focus.

Keeping the rest of the look understated, the Modern Family star skipped statement jewelry and finished the outfit with Stuart Weitzman’s barely-there “Nudist” sandals, whose minimalist straps visually elongated her legs.

Sarah grounded the airy monochrome outfit with a pair of black goosebump leather Stuart Weitzman “Nudist” sandals.

Introduced in 2013, the barely-there design became a red carpet fixture, with celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Beckinsale, Blake Lively, Jessica Biel, Gigi Hadid, and others wearing variations of the minimalist ankle-strap silhouette.

The understated black sandals work particularly well here: rather than adding another color or competing detail, they ground Sarah’s sheer Line Dot separates while leaving the oversized polka dots and lightweight texture to carry the look.

Sarah wore a strapless Vera Wang mini dress with a heavily jeweled bodice and sculpted flared skirt, then carried the sparkle through to her shoes with Brian Atwood “Avice” sandals, a crystal-embellished T-strap style that echoed the stones across the dress.

The Avice is now an archival style, and Brian Atwood’s namesake label no longer operates as the full-scale luxury footwear house it was in the 2000s and early 2010s.

As of August 2026, the brand’s former online store is unavailable, although Atwood himself remains active through collaborations and new footwear projects. Earlier Brian Atwood designs continue to circulate on the secondary market, with pre-owned Brian Atwood shoes available at Farfetch, including platform sandals, pumps, and other statement styles from the label’s archive.

Sarah revealed that she spent New Year’s Eve at her friend Vanessa’s house, where the festivities included stomping on pizza boxes.

The “Vanessa” in question was longtime friend Vanessa Hudgens, who later shared photos of the playful moment on Sarah’s Instagram, with the pair laughing as they crushed empty pizza boxes to ring in the new year.
