At Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2022 menswear show in Paris on January 20, 2022, Venus Williams paired a navy mini dress and black-and-white leather jacket with one of the outfit’s most distinctive pieces: Louis Vuitton’s pointed-toe “Flags” high boots from the Cruise 2022 collection.

The Paris Fashion Week presentation also carried particular significance for Louis Vuitton. Staged at the Carreau du Temple as the surreal “Louis Dreamhouse,” the show presented the eighth and final menswear collection designed by Virgil Abloh, who died on November 28, 2021. The set included a half-sunken house, bedroom, staircase, and banquet table with a seated orchestra.

Venus Williams Pairs Louis Vuitton’s Flags Boots With a Navy Mini Dress

Williams attended the show in a navy Louis Vuitton mini dress detailed with gold-tone buttons and checkerboard accents, layered beneath a black leather track-style jacket with contrasting white checkerboard panels.

Her footwear was Louis Vuitton’s “Flags” high boot from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Cruise 2022 collection. The design combines elements of Western and biker boots, with a pointed toe and a paneled mix of grained goat leather and suede calf leather.

The black mid-calf boots feature a rubber Louis Vuitton logo patch at the shaft, a side zip, ribbed detailing across the vamp, and a low 1.4-inch wooden heel. Originally priced at $1,850, the discontinued style stands out for its unusual cowboy-meets-motorcycle construction.

At 6 feet ½ inch (184.2 cm), Venus Williams is notably tall and wears a reported US size 13 shoe, so the Flags boots’ low heel added relatively little height. Their visual impact came instead from the elongated pointed toe, mixed leather textures, and paneled shaft.

Williams finished her show look with a twisted updo, large hoop earrings, and a circular Louis Vuitton Monogram top-handle bag marked “N°7,” echoing the graphic patterns and hardware used throughout her outfit.

This was not Williams’ first Paris Fashion Week appearance built around Louis Vuitton boots. In October 2020, she paired a Damier mini dress and oversized Monogram jacket with Louis Vuitton Wonderland Flat Ranger boots, a chunkier lace-up design combining Monogram canvas, black leather, and prominent gold-tone LV hardware.

Venus Williams Rewears Her Louis Vuitton Jacket With Black Chanel Boots

A few days after the Louis Vuitton show, Williams was photographed leaving her Paris hotel in the same black-and-white jacket, styled in a more casual winter outfit. She layered it over a navy-and-gray top and scarf with black leggings.

She added contrast with a gold, crystal-embellished crossbody bag and a statement ring, but changed the footwear entirely from her Louis Vuitton show look.

Instead of the pointed Flags boots, Williams wore black Chanel boots with low block heels and the house’s recognizable interlocking CC emblem at the outer ankle. Their simpler silhouette made them a more understated choice with her leggings while keeping the outfit anchored in black leather.

Williams has continued to make boots part of her Louis Vuitton front-row wardrobe. At the house’s Fall/Winter 2024 menswear show in Paris, she took a more tailored approach, pairing black flared trousers with chunky black combat boots, a white shirt, a cropped jacket, and a green Louis Vuitton box bag.

Why Louis Vuitton and Chanel Boots Remain Celebrity Fashion Staples

Williams’ two Paris outfits show why Louis Vuitton and Chanel boots appear so often in celebrity wardrobes. Both houses make footwear with recognizable design signatures, but their boots can work in very different settings—from the pointed, Western-meets-biker construction of Louis Vuitton’s Flags boots with a mini dress to understated black Chanel boots worn with leggings.

Louis Vuitton’s seasonal collections regularly reinterpret familiar boot shapes through distinctive materials, proportions, and house details, while Chanel uses recognizable elements such as its interlocking CC emblem alongside silhouettes ranging from Chelsea boots to over-the-knee and vintage-inspired designs. That gives celebrities plenty of room to wear the two houses, from mini dresses and tailoring to leggings and casual streetwear.

Williams’ own footwear choices make that range particularly clear. Her Louis Vuitton Flags boots were the statement piece of her January 2022 show outfit, while her Chanel boots offered a quieter alternative with the same Louis Vuitton jacket days later. Across her other Paris Fashion Week appearances, she has continued to use designer boots to shift an outfit from polished and tailored to rugged and casual.
