At the 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on September 14, 2019, Tinashe kept her outfit simple and let her shoes provide the detail. The singer attended in support of Rent: Live, which won two awards that evening, wearing a black flared midi dress with transparent Dolce Gabbana “Bette” Cinderella Mary Jane pumps.

Standing about 5’3½” (161.3 cm) and wearing a US shoe size 8, Tinashe has frequently used statement heels to add height to her red-carpet looks. Her footwear archive includes Alexander Wang “Elise” studded ankle-strap pumps at the 2016 TIME 100 Gala and jeweled PVC Alexander Wang sandals at the 2016 American Music Awards.

For the Creative Arts Emmys, she switched designers but stayed with eye-catching footwear. Her Dolce Gabbana Mary Janes featured transparent uppers, etched floral detailing, crystal-embellished straps, and sculpted plexiglass heels—a decorative variation on the clear shoe trend.

The Emmy appearance also offers an interesting contrast with another black-dress look Tinashe wore for a Rent: Live event earlier that year, when she chose Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps instead.

Tinashe’s Dolce Gabbana ‘Bette’ Cinderella Mary Janes kind of look like plastic Barbie shoes, but we’ve got to give it to Tinashe for taking a different approach to the clear shoe trend.

The “2 On” songstress was also right in getting rid of the black flower embellishments. The all-clear ‘Glass Slipper’ version with crystal-buttoned straps and unadorned plexiglass heels is much more preferable.

Before they nabbed double Emmys, the Rent: Live cast and crew held a For Your Consideration Event for their three-hour TV special back in June.

Tinashe also donned a little black dress for the occasion. She posed like her character Mimi Marquez and raised one foot to show the red bottoms of her Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ pumps.

Tinashe paired the mini dress with Christian Louboutin’s So Kate pumps, whose 120mm (approximately 4.7-inch) stiletto heels and sharply pointed toes gave the otherwise simple black look a dramatic finish. The classic So Kate has no platform, making its steep pitch part of the shoe’s distinctive silhouette.

The So Kate remains part of Christian Louboutin’s lineup. As of July 2026, Mytheresa listed the So Kate 120 patent leather pumps for $945 in EU sizes 34 through 42, while Farfetch offered the 120mm So Kate for $795. Farfetch’s pre-owned selection also showed how widely the style circulates on the resale market, with So Kate pumps in patent leather, satin, glitter, suede, leopard print, and other finishes listed from about $223 to $800.

Tinashe’s crystal-trimmed Dolce Gabbana Mary Janes and razor-sharp Christian Louboutin So Kates represent two very different takes on the statement heel: one decorative and transparent, the other pared back to a pointed toe and towering stiletto.
