Selena Gomez Proves the Power of Stuart Weitzman & Paris Texas Shoes in NYC

Selena Gomez gave us two very different approaches to New York dressing in May 2022 — and her shoes helped define each one. During a busy stretch promoting Only Murders in the Building and making her Saturday Night Live hosting debut, she moved from pastel tailoring and classic pointed-toe pumps to a minimalist black evening dress with crystal-covered mules.

At the 2022 ABC Disney Upfront in New York City on May 17, Gomez joined Only Murders in the Building co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short in a pale peach Mango blazer-and-skirt set. Instead of pairing the affordable separates with equally casual footwear, she finished the look with sleek white Stuart Weitzman Anny pumps, giving the monochromatic outfit a sharper finish.

Two nights earlier, following her May 14 hosting debut on Saturday Night Live, Gomez took the opposite approach for the show’s after-party at L’Avenue at Saks. Her strapless black GAUGE81 Lica dress drew on the clean, body-skimming minimalism of 1990s eveningwear, while crystal-embellished Paris Texas Hollywood 95 PVC mules added the sparkle.

Together, the appearances show how Gomez used two familiar shoe formulas in distinctly different ways: a pointed white pump to sharpen daytime tailoring and a barely-there crystal mule to dress up an otherwise restrained black evening look.

Selena Gomez Pairs Mango Separates With Stuart Weitzman Anny Pumps

For the ABC Disney Upfront, Gomez wore a pale peach cropped Mango blazer with short sleeves and a matching A-line skirt. Oversized pearl-centered buttons and patch pockets gave the coordinated set a subtly retro feel, while a simple white top kept the palette clean.

She continued the light palette with white pointed-toe Stuart Weitzman Anny pumps. The Anny’s sharp point and low-cut vamp visually extended the line of the foot, while the simple white leather kept the shoes from competing with the oversized buttons and cropped proportions of the Mango set.

Stuart Weitzman was already familiar territory in Gomez’s press-tour wardrobe. During her 2015 Revival promotional run, she wore Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals alongside heels by Christian Louboutin, Brian Atwood, Nicholas Kirkwood, and Charlotte Olympia. In both cases, the Stuart Weitzman shoes worked as relatively restrained foundations rather than the loudest element of the outfit.

Gomez accessorized the Upfront look with square hoop earrings and stacked gold rings from Toronto-based jewelry brand Mejuri. She finished with winged eyeliner, a pale lip, and her hair swept into a loose high bun.

Paris Texas Crystal Mules Change the Mood for the SNL After-Party

Gomez changed direction for the Saturday Night Live after-party at L’Avenue at Saks on May 15. Following her first appearance as an SNL host, she traded the pastel tailoring and closed-toe pumps of her Upfront look for a strapless black GAUGE81 dress and crystal-covered Paris Texas mules.

The GAUGE81 Lica dress featured a strapless neckline, close-fitting silk-satin silhouette, gathered detailing at the hip, and a high side slit. Its pared-back black design leaned into the clean minimalism associated with 1990s eveningwear, leaving the shoes to provide most of the visible embellishment.

Rather than continuing the minimalism all the way to the floor, Gomez added sparkle with Paris Texas Hollywood 95 mules. The open-toe shoes combined transparent PVC straps with iridescent crystal embellishments and a slender 95mm stiletto heel.

The clear upper was especially effective with the dress’s exposed leg: from a distance, much of the shoe visually receded, leaving the crystals and slim heel more prominent. Gomez has used this footwear effect in other forms. Her Manolo Blahnik Pacha pumps also used transparent PVC to create a barely-there effect, though their pointed closed-toe construction produced a very different silhouette.

The Hollywood 95 wasn’t Gomez’s only Paris Texas mule moment during her 2022 Only Murders in the Building promotional run. The following month, she paired a green Self-Portrait dress with black patent Paris Texas mules for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, swapping the crystal-covered transparency seen here for a darker, more substantial finish.

Diamond earrings and glossy black nails complemented the crystal footwear without introducing another major color to the outfit. Gomez kept her makeup relatively soft with a peach-toned lip, blush, and winged eyeliner, while her hair was styled away from her face in shoulder-length waves.

The contrast between these two appearances is less about choosing between casual and glamorous dressing than about how Gomez used footwear to control each look’s proportions and emphasis.

At the Upfront, the white Stuart Weitzman Anny pumps echoed her white top while their pointed toes added length beneath the short A-line skirt. At the SNL after-party, the Paris Texas Hollywood 95 mules did almost the reverse: their transparent uppers largely disappeared against the foot, allowing the crystals to punctuate an otherwise uninterrupted black silhouette.

That ability to return to recognizable shoe shapes while changing the styling around them appears throughout Gomez’s wardrobe.
