Scarlett Johansson brought tailored pinstripes to the 71st Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 11, 2017. She wore a custom Michael Kors Collection skirt suit with metallic Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals, pairing a menswear-inspired silhouette with one of the defining minimalist red-carpet heels of the 2010s.

The white-and-blue pinstripe ensemble drew inspiration from Michael Kors’ Resort 2018 collection. Its double-breasted jacket featured a deep V-neckline, pushed-up sleeves, and a wide white grommeted belt that defined the waist, while the matching floor-length skirt opened into a thigh-high slit. At 5’3″ (160 cm), with a US shoe size 8.5, Scarlett Johansson frequently turns to high heels for red-carpet appearances, and here the slit kept her metallic stilettos visible beneath the long skirt.

Michael Kors Tailoring Meets Barely-There Stuart Weitzman Sandals

The footwear was deliberately pared back. Johansson chose Stuart Weitzman’s Nudist sandals in noir platinum lamé, featuring the style’s narrow toe strap, slim adjustable ankle strap, and approximately 4.5-inch stiletto heel.

The metallic texture picked up the subtle shine running through the pinstripes without adding another strong shape to the outfit. With much of the foot exposed, the sandals also provided a visual counterpoint to the structured jacket and floor-length skirt.

The Nudist remains part of Stuart Weitzman’s lineup: as of September 2026, Nordstrom carries several versions of the Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandal, including classic stiletto, Nudist II, block-heel, platform, and metallic variations.

The combination of Michael Kors tailoring and metallic evening shoes was already familiar territory for Johansson. At the Paris premiere of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, she paired a red Michael Kors pantsuit with metallic peep-toe sandals. Three years later at the Tonys, she revisited the idea with a longer silhouette and a more minimal two-strap shoe.

How the Thigh-High Slit Put Scarlett Johansson’s Nudist Sandals on Display

The floor-length skirt could easily have hidden the footwear, but its thigh-high slit made the sandals part of the look, not an incidental finishing touch. The narrow straps left most of Johansson’s foot exposed, while the high stiletto heel added height without the visual weight of a platform or closed-toe pump.

The noir platinum lamé gave the sandals a textured silver appearance rather than a mirror-like metallic finish. That allowed them to coordinate with Johansson’s silver accessories while preserving the clean, barely-there construction that made the Nudist such a recognizable red-carpet shoe.

Silver Accessories Keep the Focus on the Pinstripe Suit

Johansson finished the look with a structured metallic silver box clutch, chandelier earrings, rings, and a swept-back blonde pixie cut. Keeping the accessories within the same cool metallic range connected them visually to the sandals without distracting from the pinstriped Michael Kors tailoring.

Why Minimalist Sandals Work With Statement Tailoring

Johansson’s Tony Awards outfit illustrates a useful eveningwear formula: when the clothing already carries strong structure, pattern, or volume, a barely-there sandal can provide height without introducing another visually heavy element. Here, the slim straps leave the foot largely uncovered beneath the long skirt, while the metallic finish ties the shoes back to the clutch and jewelry.

Johansson has returned to this footwear approach with very different clothes. At the 2019 Marriage Story premiere during the New York Film Festival, she paired Aquazzura Minimalist sandals with an embellished Dior gown, again using thin toe and ankle straps beneath a more detailed statement piece.

Her Tony Awards appearance also sits between two very different 2017 shoe moments. At the Ghost in the Shell premiere that April, Johansson wore an edgier head-to-toe Alaïa look, while another appearance saw her choose a red ensemble with Sophia Webster sandals. The Tony Awards look took a quieter approach at the feet, letting the metallic Stuart Weitzman straps complement rather than compete with the pinstriped tailoring.
