At the Z100 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 10, 2021, Nicky Hilton paired a bright pink Valentino minidress with black tights and towering black patent Valentino Garavani Tan-Go platform pumps.

The 6.1-inch (155mm) Tan-Go heels were a particularly bold choice for Hilton, whose Valentino shoe history also includes the house’s pointed-toe Rockstud designs. Here, the familiar studs and stilettos were replaced by rounded toes, substantial 2.2-inch (55mm) platforms, thick block heels, and slim ankle straps finished with gold-tone VLogo buckles.

Nicky Hilton Pairs a Pink Valentino Minidress With Black Platforms

Nicky Hilton wore a Valentino wool-and-silk minidress with long fitted sleeves, a crew neckline, and a short flared A-line skirt. Rows of crystal-and-sequin bows ran vertically down the front, adding texture and sparkle to the otherwise clean silhouette.

The short A-line shape and oversized platforms gave the outfit a late-1960s-inspired feel. Hilton kept the styling tightly coordinated, using semi-opaque black tights, black patent shoes, and a black velvet hair ribbon to frame the vivid pink dress.

How High Are Nicky Hilton’s Valentino Tan-Go Platform Heels?

Hilton’s black patent Valentino Garavani Tan-Go platform pumps have 6.1-inch (155mm) block heels supported by substantial 2.2-inch (55mm) front platforms.

That combination is important: although the overall heel measures more than six inches from the ground, subtracting the platform leaves an effective heel rise of roughly 3.9 inches (100mm). In other words, the Tan-Go creates considerably more overall height without putting the foot at the same angle as a conventional six-inch pump with little or no platform.

The Italian-made round-toe pumps are made from glossy black patent leather and finished with slender ankle straps and gold-tone VLogo buckles. The narrow straps deliberately contrast with the unusually substantial platform and block heel.

For Hilton, who stands 5’7″ and wears a US women’s shoe size 10.5, the 155mm Tan-Go represents the more exaggerated end of the designer footwear documented in her Best Quality Luxury Shoes Online Store style archive.

From Valentino Rockstuds to Tan-Go Platforms

The Jingle Ball appearance also fits into Hilton’s long history of wearing Valentino, while showing how dramatically her footwear choices from the house have changed over time.

In 2014, she wore neon-yellow Valentino Rockstud pumps with a Peter Pilotto for Target dress at a New York screening of Only Lovers Left Alive. The pointed-toe pumps used the Rockstud formula of pyramid hardware, slender T-straps, and stiletto heels. She returned to Valentino Rockstud shoes with a striped Valentino minidress during New York Fashion Week in 2015.

The Tan-Go takes almost the opposite approach. Instead of a pointed toe and narrow stiletto, its rounded toe, thick platform, and oversized block heel make the structure of the shoe itself the focal point. Hilton’s black pair nevertheless served a similar styling purpose: grounding a colorful Valentino minidress without competing with it.

Black Accessories Tie the Valentino Look Together

Hairstylist Valerie Vanessa finished Hilton’s blonde hair in a wavy half-up style tied with a black velvet ribbon, visually connecting it to her tights and patent platforms. Makeup artist Joel Vasquez paired a soft smoky eye with pink lipstick that complemented the dress.

The hair bow is also a recurring detail in Hilton’s Valentino styling. At the 2019 WWD Honors, she wore another black Valentino A-line minidress with black pumps and her blonde hair pulled into a half-up style with a black bow. For the 2021 Jingle Ball, repeating that detail against a much brighter dress helped connect the black accessories from head to toe.

Why Celebrities Pair Black Tights With Platform Heels

Black tights and platform heels work especially well together because the dark hosiery creates a continuous visual line into the shoe, while the added height and weight of a platform help balance short skirts, minidresses, and oversized outerwear. The combination can make the leg line appear longer, add contrast to lighter or brighter clothing, and give revealing hemlines a more grounded finish.

The effect changes depending on the hosiery and shoes: opaque tights create a stronger, uninterrupted column of black, while sheer tights add more contrast between the leg, shoe, and outfit. Platforms also make the pairing feel more deliberate, whether the shoes are closed-toe pumps, ankle-strap styles, or more unexpected open-toe designs.
