Sisters Laura and Vanessa Marano took two very different approaches to petite red-carpet dressing at the 2019 MTV Movie TV Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on June 15, 2019.

Laura, who stands about 5’1″ (154.9 cm) and wears a US size 7 shoe, chose a floor-length Raisa Vanessa look with crystal-embellished Stella Luna sandals, while 5’2½” (158.8 cm) Vanessa, who wears a US size 6.5 shoe, went shorter in a gold sequined mini dress and metallic Schutz heels.

The appearance also brought the sisters together ahead of Saving Zoë, the 2019 crime drama in which they both starred and produced. Based on Alyson Noël’s novel, the film was released in the United States in July 2019.

The project marked another collaboration between Laura and her older sister, Vanessa Marano, who had already appeared together on Hollywood red carpets for years.

Laura Marano Pairs a Raisa Vanessa Two-Piece Look With Stella Luna Chain Sandals

Laura wore a two-piece look from Raisa Vanessa’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection, pairing a crystal-embellished ruffled crop top with a coordinating tiered maxi skirt. Hearts On Fire jewelry added more sparkle, while her crystal XXL Chain sandals by Stella Luna carried the embellishment down to her feet.

The sandals featured delicate ankle ties contrasted with oversized crystal-covered chain links, a signature detail that gave the otherwise barely-there silhouette more visual weight. With much of Laura’s petite 5’1″ frame covered by the tiered maxi skirt, the sparkling open-toe heels provided a lighter finish than a heavier platform or closed pump would have.

Vanessa took the opposite approach in a long-sleeved gold sequined mini dress by Kimberly Parker, letting the shorter hemline put her metallic Schutz ankle-strap sandals fully on display.

The slim ankle straps and stiletto heels kept the footwear visually light against the all-over sequins, while the metallic finish echoed the dress color. A Lanvin clutch completed the look.

At 5’2½”, Vanessa often relies on heel height and streamlined footwear to change the proportions of an outfit. Her 2019 Schutz sandals were notably less bulky than the tall black platform boots she wore with jeans at the 2013 People StyleWatch Denim Party, showing how differently she has styled shoes around her petite frame.

How Laura and Vanessa Marano’s Red-Carpet Style Changed From 2011 to 2019

The sisters’ 2019 appearance also contrasted with their earlier red-carpet style. When Laura and Vanessa attended the 2011 Teen Choice Awards together, both favored brighter colors and simpler, more youthful silhouettes.

By 2019, their footwear choices had become much more distinct. Laura leaned into an embellished, floor-length look with statement Stella Luna sandals, while Vanessa paired a streamlined sequined mini with barely-there Schutz heels.

Vanessa has also explored other approaches to petite red-carpet dressing. At the 2016 American Film Institute Life Achievement Award Gala, she wore burgundy heels with a fitted navy dress alongside her Switched at Birth co-stars, another example of how a simple heel can work with a clean, close-to-the-body silhouette.

Stella Luna vs. Schutz: Where the Two Shoe Brands Are Today

Laura and Vanessa’s contrasting sandals also tell two very different brand stories. Stella Luna, launched by footwear manufacturer Stella International in 2006, became known internationally for fashion-forward shoes such as Laura’s crystal-covered XXL Chain sandals.

The label later retreated from the global presence it once had, including closing its former Paris locations. Stella International has continued to report Stella Luna as an owned brand, but its recent financial reporting describes the brand’s remaining mainland China wholesale business as being scaled down.

Schutz, meanwhile, remains an active international footwear label. Founded in Brazil in 1995 and part of the ArezzoCo group, the brand still sells the kind of streamlined sandals Vanessa wore here, alongside pumps, boots, flats, platforms, wedges, and kitten heels. Shoppers can browse the label’s latest designs and collections on the brand’s official website.
