Lucy Hale turned an ordinary grocery run into one of her most recognizable off-duty fashion moments when she visited Erewhon Organic Grocers in Los Angeles on December 20, 2021.

While her relaxed denim, colorful cardigan, and Saint Laurent accessories drew plenty of attention, it was her Rachel Comey “Salta” clogs that quietly anchored the entire look, showing how a distinctive pair of shoes can elevate even the most casual errand.

Hale built the outfit around easy everyday staples, pairing a fitted white ribbed tank with relaxed light-wash distressed jeans and layering them under Line Dot’s “Be Mine” cardigan.

The waffle-knit sweater, finished with pastel color-block stripes and gold-tone buttons, added warmth and texture without competing with the rest of the look.

Her accessories balanced practicality with personality.

Hale carried her groceries while wearing the medium Saint Laurent “Niki” bag in quilted suede, layering Zoe Lev’s engraved heart pendant necklace with a second gold chain, stacked rings, multiple earrings, and vintage-inspired round sunglasses.

The finishing touch was Rachel Comey’s “Salta” clog in taupe crinkle patent leather. Handmade in Peru, the discontinued style features a square toe, a padded collar, and a solid 2.8-inch (70 mm) wooden heel.

Rachel Comey’s sculptural approach to footwear has also appeared throughout her ready-to-wear collections, from Gaby Hoffmann’s orange velvet “Keta” platform heels to Elisha Cuthbert’s sculptural metallic Rachel Comey wedges.

Originally priced at $435, the Salta is now generally limited to secondhand marketplaces, where availability and pricing depend on size and condition. Shoppers looking for a current Rachel Comey alternative can still find the brand’s “Bose” clogs on Amazon for about $450 as of July 2026, although prices, colors, sizes, and availability may change.

Why Clogs Remain an Off-Duty Celebrity Staple

Lucy Hale’s grocery-run outfit shows why clogs have remained a favorite in celebrity wardrobes year after year. Their combination of comfort, slip-on convenience, and distinctive silhouette makes them an easy alternative to both sneakers and heels for everyday wear.

Whether paired with relaxed denim, tailored trousers, or flowing dresses, clogs add a subtle fashion-forward edge without sacrificing practicality. From Jennifer Aniston and Kendall Jenner to Meryl Streep, celebrities continue to embrace the style, while luxury houses including Bottega Veneta and Chloé have elevated the once-humble clog into a modern designer essential.
