Adriana Lima has moved easily between glamorous red carpet dressing and sportier looks, with her footwear often helping define the difference. At the 33rd Annual Footwear News Achievement Awards in Manhattan on December 3, 2019, she paired a crystal-embellished Area pantsuit with equally sparkling Gianvito Rossi Montecarlo sandals.

The black suede evening sandals featured crystal-covered front straps, ankle-wrap ties, and slender 105mm heels, bringing more shine to Area’s cutout tailoring while leaving Lima’s foot tattoo visible. The look also connected two sides of her fashion profile at the time: luxury designer footwear and her work with Puma, which was honored as Brand of the Year at the event.

Lima had also collaborated with Puma on a boxing-inspired capsule collection influenced by her longtime interest in the sport. The range combined training references such as boxing boots, sports bras, and wide-waistband tights with cropped layers and other pieces designed to work beyond the gym.

Adriana Lima Pairs an Area Crystal Pantsuit With Gianvito Rossi Sandals

For the ceremony, Lima wore a black pantsuit by Area, the New York label known for combining structured silhouettes with crystal-heavy embellishment.

The cropped blazer featured an open front and draped crystal detailing, while the coordinating cigarette pants repeated the embellishment at the hems. The exposed midriff and sparkling trim softened the otherwise tailored shape of the two-piece look.

Her beauty look stayed relatively restrained beside the heavily embellished outfit. Makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez defined her brows and lashes and added soft blush with a neutral lip, while hairstylist Danielle Priano styled her dark hair in a side-parted blowout.

Her Gianvito Rossi Montecarlo Sandals Add More Crystal Detail

Stylist Erin Walsh finished the look with Chopard earrings and Gianvito Rossi Montecarlo sandals. The crystal-covered evening shoes feature a narrow front strap, wraparound ankle ties, and a slender 105mm, or about 4.1-inch, stiletto heel.

The open design also left Lima’s foot tattoo visible. Her Montecarlo sandals are a characteristic example of Gianvito Rossi’s footwear: a relatively minimal sandal shape elevated through fine materials and decorative detailing.

The Montecarlo has continued to appear in celebrity wardrobes since Lima wore the crystal style in 2019. Ashanti paired white Gianvito Rossi Montecarlo sandals with an Alexander McQueen suit for her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2022, while Rihanna wore a metallic silver version of the Montecarlo with a black LaQuan Smith dress in 2024.

Despite the different finishes, the shoes share the elements that define the Montecarlo silhouette: a crystal-covered toe strap, delicate ankle ties, and a slender stiletto heel.

Gianvito Rossi Montecarlo Crystal Sandals

Gianvito Rossi founded his namesake footwear label in 2006 after spending years working alongside his father, Italian shoemaker Sergio Rossi. The younger Rossi became known for polished pumps and sandals built around clean proportions rather than highly experimental shapes.

The Montecarlo sandal follows that approach with a slim sole, a single crystal-trimmed front strap, delicate ankle ties, and a high stiletto heel. The style was produced in finishes including black suede and iridescent gold.

Her Puma Collaboration Drew on Boxing and Vintage Sportswear

Lima’s work with Puma offered a much sportier counterpoint to the Area and Gianvito Rossi look. Her capsule collection drew on years of boxing training and used details associated with the sport, including high-top boxing footwear, sports bras, and tights with wide waistbands.

The collection also incorporated cropped hoodies, metallic accents, and streetwear-influenced layering, reflecting Puma’s broader history of adapting athletic silhouettes for fashion-focused collaborations.

Rather than treating sportswear and red carpet dressing as separate parts of her wardrobe, Lima’s style during this period showed how readily she moved between the two. The boxing-inspired Puma pieces leaned on vintage athletic references, while the Footwear News look used sharp tailoring, crystals, jewelry, and high stiletto sandals.

Adriana Lima Takes a More Minimal Approach in Jason Wu

Earlier that year, Lima took a more streamlined approach to evening dressing at Jason Wu’s fashion show at Pier 17 in New York City on September 8, 2019.

She wore a red Jason Wu twist-front stretch-jersey midi dress, a comparatively minimal look that relied on draping and silhouette rather than the crystal embellishment of her later Area ensemble.

Taken together, the looks show a recurring pattern in Lima’s wardrobe: strong tailoring and glamorous accessories on the red carpet, cleaner draped silhouettes for fashion-week appearances, and vintage sportswear influences in her athletic collaborations. Her shoes play an equally important role, ranging from boxing-inspired Puma styles to crystal-covered Gianvito Rossi stilettos.
