Olivia Culpo Revamps Red Carpet Style in Fuchsia Valentino Gown & Roman Stud Pumps

On April 1, 2021, Olivia Culpo attended Valentino’s Collezione Milano installation at the Rubell Museum in Miami wearing a fuchsia silk-chiffon gown from the house’s Spring 2021 collection with white Valentino Garavani Roman Stud pumps.

The shoes gave the flowing one-shoulder dress a more structured finish. Their pointed toes, caged T-straps, ankle straps, and oversized pyramid studs belonged to Valentino’s then-new Roman Stud family, an enlarged reinterpretation of the smaller studs that had defined the house’s Rockstud shoes since the early 2010s. The Miami presentation brought Maison Valentino’s Spring 2021 Collezione Milano to the Rubell Museum for a three-day installation.

The collection had originally been presented in Milan in September 2020, a temporary departure from Valentino’s traditional Paris runway setting.

Culpo wore one of the collection’s fuchsia gowns, a 100% silk-chiffon design with an asymmetric one-shoulder cape, a high side slit, and softly draped ruffles.

The fluid silhouette recalled the Greco-Roman-inspired draping long seen in Valentino eveningwear, while the saturated fuchsia foreshadowed Pierpaolo Piccioli’s increasingly prominent use of intense pink at the house.

Fishtail Braid and Minimal Jewelry Keep the Focus on the Dress

Culpo skipped statement jewelry, allowing the vivid color, sheer chiffon, and asymmetric construction of the Valentino gown to remain the focus.

She wore her dark hair in a fishtail braid, leaving a few loose waves around her face. Her makeup continued the pink color story with rosy cheeks and a deeper pink-red lip.

Valentino Roman Stud Pumps Add Structure to the Flowing Gown

The most distinctive accessory was Culpo’s white Valentino Garavani Roman Stud pumps. Made from leather, the pointed-toe shoes feature caged T-straps, adjustable ankle straps, oversized pyramid studs, and heels measuring about 3.2 inches.

The light-colored leather provided a relatively neutral base beneath the vivid fuchsia gown, while the oversized metal hardware created a sharper contrast with the softness of the chiffon.

At 5’5″ (165 cm) with a reported US shoe size 8, Culpo regularly incorporates high heels into her event looks, with Valentino joining a designer-shoe rotation that has included Giuseppe Zanotti, Stuart Weitzman, Gianvito Rossi, Aquazzura, and Saint Laurent.

How Valentino’s Roman Stud Evolved From the Rockstud

The Roman Stud was a larger-scale development of one of Valentino’s most recognizable modern shoe signatures.

The original Rockstud line emerged in 2010 under then-creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, using small pyramid-shaped studs across pumps, sandals, bags, and other accessories.

For Spring 2021, Piccioli enlarged that familiar hardware into the Roman Stud’s oversized pyramid motif. The change in scale made the studs far more prominent, particularly on shoes like Culpo’s caged pumps, where the hardware becomes part of the overall silhouette rather than functioning primarily as trim.

That contrast helps explain why the shoes work with Culpo’s dress: both pieces come from the same Valentino collection but approach volume differently, pairing the gown’s loose silk-chiffon draping with the pumps’ geometric leather straps and substantial metal studs.
