Olivia Palermo’s street style has long mixed polished separates with shoes that give outfits personality. Two Brooklyn outings in July 2020 offered very different examples: one built around glittering Roger Vivier lace-up boots, and another finished with embroidered Alberta Ferretti mules.
Spotted in Brooklyn, New York City, on July 14 and July 12, respectively, Palermo paired both statement shoes with the midi skirts, scarves, and unexpected color combinations that defined much of her off-duty wardrobe at the time. Here’s a closer look at the two outfits—and how switching from chunky boots to flat mules completely changed the mood.

Palermo built the first look around shades of blue, pairing a patterned long-sleeved blouse with a pleated Max Co. satin midi skirt. Midi skirts were already a recurring part of her street style, but this one stood out for its ruffled construction and contrasting neon-orange drawstring waist.
The mix of polished satin and a sporty drawstring set up the outfit’s most distinctive element: her crystal-buckled Roger Vivier boots.

With several colors and prints already in play, Palermo kept the accessories within the same eclectic mix, carrying a patterned black-and-white purse and wearing translucent sand acetate sunglasses from her collaboration with Westward Leaning.

She also layered a cream-and-black Le Scarf kerchief over her face mask, another example of the scarves that became a recurring feature of her 2020 street style.

The outfit’s strongest contrast came at her feet. Rather than grounding the flowing midi skirt with a simple sandal or pump, Palermo chose Roger Vivier’s chunky “Viv Rangers” ankle boots.
The French label was already part of her street-style rotation: weeks earlier, she had paired a lavender Tibi midi dress with Roger Vivier Sneaky Viv high-top sneakers, another crystal-buckled design with a much sportier silhouette.
The silver tweed pair combined hiking-inspired proportions with the crystal buckles associated with the French fashion house. Palermo later showed another side of the label in New York, swapping chunky boots for hot-pink Roger Vivier “Love Vivi” pumps styled with cuffed denim and winter layers. Roger Vivier footwear is also available through Mytheresa.

Made from tweed bouclé and Lurex with metallic leather piping, the Viv Rangers feature crystal ankle buckles, lace-up fronts, inner side zips, back pull tabs, and chunky rubber outsoles with an approximately one-inch heel.

Olivia Palermo Styles Alberta Ferretti Mules With an Earth-Tone Midi Skirt
Two days earlier, Palermo took a softer approach to statement footwear during a walk through Brooklyn’s Dumbo neighborhood. Instead of the chunky Roger Vivier boots she would wear with her blue ensemble, she finished this earth-toned look with embroidered Alberta Ferretti mules.

Palermo paired an olive Zara shirt with epaulets and breast pockets with a brown button-front midi skirt, continuing the loose silhouettes and mid-calf hemlines she frequently wore for daytime outings.
An upturned collar and rolled sleeves kept the shirt relaxed rather than tailored.

The muted olive-and-brown palette became a backdrop for brighter accessories: a wide hot-pink belt, a blue tubular bag, and a yellow printed silk scarf worn over her face mask.

Palermo also added chunky tortoiseshell sunglasses and a Piaget Limelight Gala watch, an 18-karat rose-gold design set with diamonds around its silvered dial. The watch was originally listed at $27,100.

At her feet, Palermo chose embroidered Alberta Ferretti mules, giving the relaxed outfit a noticeably lighter finish than the chunky boots in her July 14 look.
They were already a familiar pair in her wardrobe. Two weeks earlier, Palermo had styled the same embroidered Alberta Ferretti “Mia” velvet mules with a khaki-green midi skirt, yellow polka-dot blouse, and feather-trimmed Brunello Cucinelli cardigan while walking Mr. Butler in Brooklyn.
The mules kept resurfacing in her wardrobe. Later that month, she paired them with a red-and-white Lucy Paris two-piece, another Brooklyn look built around her Alberta Ferretti mules. The repeat appearances show how easily the embroidered slip-ons moved between muted separates and brighter summer prints.

Why Alberta Ferretti and Roger Vivier Remain Celebrity Shoe Favorites
Palermo’s two Brooklyn looks capture what makes Alberta Ferretti and Roger Vivier such different but enduring celebrity choices. Alberta Ferretti is best known for romantic, fluid fashion, and its embroidered mules translate that decorative sensibility into an easy slip-on shoe. Roger Vivier approaches statement footwear more architecturally, using recognizable buckles, crystal embellishment, and sculptural heels to turn pumps, sandals, and boots into focal points.
That contrast extends well beyond Palermo’s wardrobe. Other stars have worn Alberta Ferretti’s embroidered mules with everything from cropped denim to clean white tailoring, while Roger Vivier’s distinctive footwear has appeared with lace dresses, velvet midis, evening gowns, and stage-ready looks.
