Founded in 2006 as Stella International Holdings’ first premium women’s footwear brand, Stella Luna became known for polished heels, boots, and sandals that combined European-influenced design with its parent company’s manufacturing expertise.

The label developed a particularly visible celebrity following during the 2010s, with its shoes appearing on Jennifer Lawrence, Katy Perry, Jessica Alba, Nicole Kidman, Anna Kendrick, and other stars. Stella Luna is no longer operating the international retail business that produced those styles: parent company Stella International subsequently scaled down its proprietary branding operations and closed Stella Luna’s European retail and wholesale network as it refocused on manufacturing footwear and leather goods for other global brands.
That makes Stella Luna something of a time capsule for an era of celebrity footwear. While its boutiques and familiar retail presence have disappeared, its pointed pumps, slim stiletto boots, embellished sandals, and other designs remain documented through the red-carpet and street-style appearances below.
Stella Luna’s Celebrity Shoe Moments: Pumps, Boots, and Sandals on the Red Carpet
Stella Luna built much of its fashion visibility through celebrity dressing. Stars photographed in the label’s shoes included Jennifer Lawrence, Lea Michele, Jaimie Alexander, Heidi Klum, Katy Perry, Kristen Wiig, Halle Berry, Anna Kendrick, Gigi Hadid, Nicole Kidman, and Nina Dobrev.

From China to Paris: How Stella Luna Built Its Luxury Shoe Identity
Stella Luna was conceived as Stella International’s move from behind-the-scenes footwear manufacturing into building a premium label of its own. “We want to be an international brand,” Stephen Chi said while discussing the company’s ambitions. “We want to build a global platform and bring affordable luxury for women around the world.”
The strategy eventually took Stella Luna beyond China. The brand opened its first Paris flagship in 2012 and developed a European fashion presence that included a collaboration with Anthony Vaccarello for Fall 2013. Capucine Safyurtlu later served as creative director, helping shape the polished European aesthetic seen in many of the Stella Luna shoes worn by celebrities during this period.
Inside Stella Luna’s Shoes: Italian Leather, Paris Design, and Stella International Manufacturing
Stella Luna was an in-house brand of Stella International Holdings, the footwear and leather-goods manufacturer whose history stretches back to the 1980s. Long before Stella Luna appeared in stores, the group was producing footwear for other international labels, and manufacturing remains the core of Stella International’s business.
That background helps explain why Stella Luna placed so much emphasis on construction and materials. During the brand’s operating years, its international setup combined design work in Paris, Italian leather sourcing, and Stella International’s large-scale footwear manufacturing capabilities in China.
Stephen Chi described that arrangement as an international mix of design, materials, and manufacturing expertise, with Paris contributing to design and an Italian team overseeing leather sourcing. It was an unusual position for a consumer-facing shoe label: Stella Luna belonged to a company that was also an experienced behind-the-scenes manufacturer for major fashion and footwear brands.

What Happened to Stella Luna? Why the Luxury Shoe Brand Disappeared From Retail
Stella Luna’s disappearance from luxury shoe retail was part of a broader change at parent company Stella International. After years of operating its own footwear labels alongside its manufacturing business, the group began scaling back its proprietary branding operations.
By the end of 2023, Stella International reported that Stella Luna’s retail stores and wholesale points of sale in Europe had ceased operations, while the retail footprint of its associated branding business in China had also been significantly reduced. The company increasingly concentrated on what had long been its larger business: designing and manufacturing footwear and leather goods for international brands.
For shoe collectors, that means the Stella Luna pumps, sandals, and boots seen throughout this article belong to a discontinued retail era rather than a current collection. The celebrity photographs remain useful, however, as a record of the silhouettes and styles that gave the label its fashion profile.
Stella Luna’s pointed-toe shoes were particularly well suited to the slim trousers and tailored outerwear that defined much of 2010s celebrity street style. Jessica Alba offered a good example when she wore the brand’s brown suede “Indispensable” booties to Who What Wear’s 10th anniversary celebration in Los Angeles on November 2, 2016.
