In December 2014, Kendall Jenner turned two consecutive Beverly Hills lunch outings into a study in contrasting Saint Laurent ankle boots. On December 5, she wore black suede Western-style “Duckies” with an all-black outfit; the following day, she switched to exotic-textured Saint Laurent Rock ankle boots with a white crop top and black skinny jeans.

At 5 feet 9¼ inches tall, Kendall has long used everything from flat boots to towering heels without needing footwear to add visual height. These two looks instead show how she used contrasting boot shapes, textures, and colors to change the character of essentially the same skinny-jeans formula.

Kendall joined Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick for lunch in Beverly Hills on December 5, 2014, wearing a fitted sheer black top and skinny jeans with Saint Laurent’s distinctive “Duckies” ankle boots.

Kendall kept the clothing simple, pairing her semi-sheer black top with black skinny jeans. She accessorized with Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses, a gray Rag Bone floppy-brim fedora, a Celine Nano bag, and a playful Fendi Karlito bag charm.

The monochrome outfit gave the footwear room to stand out. Rather than a conventional Chelsea boot, the Saint Laurent design borrowed details from classic Western footwear while keeping the silhouette narrow and streamlined.

The black suede “Duckies” feature elongated pointed toes, Western-style stitched and cutout detailing, elasticated side panels, low stacked wooden heels, and engraved silver-tone metal caps wrapping around the tips.

Western influence wasn’t a one-off experiment for Kendall. Years later, she again used cowboy-inspired footwear to disrupt a minimalist black outfit, pairing a slip dress with Ganni High Texas cowboy boots. The later look follows the same basic styling instinct: simple clothing, then a more characterful boot underneath.

Kourtney echoed Kendall’s dark palette in a loose black maternity dress, Valentino leather biker jacket, Maison Michel wide-brimmed hat, Saint Laurent sunglasses, and black lace-up combat boots.

At 5 feet tall, Kourtney has very different proportions from her much taller half-sister, but ankle boots have been equally important to her wardrobe. Pointed and streamlined styles in particular have appeared repeatedly in her off-duty looks.

Scott provided the contrast in gray jeans and tan suede boots, layering a black bomber jacket over a gray T-shirt and blue plaid shirt.

Kourtney’s combat boots were more utilitarian than Kendall’s metal-capped Saint Laurents, but the outing fits into a broader period when both sisters repeatedly relied on ankle boots to ground otherwise streamlined outfits.

Saint Laurent became especially important in Kourtney’s wardrobe: she later wore the label’s Wyatt ankle boots so frequently that the sleek Hedi Slimane-era design became one of her recognizable off-duty staples.

One Day Later: Kendall Switches to Saint Laurent Rock Python Boots

The following day, December 6, 2014, Kendall returned to Beverly Hills for lunch at Nate ’n Al Delicatessen with a friend. Although she again relied on black skinny jeans and ankle boots, the result looked noticeably different.

Instead of head-to-toe black and Western suede, she paired her jeans with an architectural white crop top featuring wide, flared sleeves.

Kendall accessorized with Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses and the same structured Celine Nano bag seen with her darker outfit. A Fendi Karlito charm added a playful detail to the handbag, while her black Rich Skinny Legacy jeans kept attention on the pale snake-print boots.

The Saint Laurent Rock ankle boots provided the defining detail. Their beige-and-brown python texture, pointed shape, and low, Western-influenced heel created far more contrast against the black jeans than the suede Duckies had the day before.

The Rock design has a pointed toe, ankle-skimming shaft, low angled heel, and natural python pattern that varies across the leather.

Its shape belongs to the same broader Saint Laurent vocabulary that made Hedi Slimane-era styles such as the Wyatt Chelsea boot recognizable: elongated toes, compact heels, and a rock-and-roll interpretation of classic Western footwear.

Two Saint Laurent Boots, Two Very Different Off-Duty Looks

Seen together, Kendall’s December 5 and December 6 outfits make the footwear comparison more interesting than either look alone. Both start with black skinny jeans, a compact Celine bag, sunglasses, and ankle boots, yet the shoes push them in opposite directions.

The black suede Duckies reinforce the first outfit’s darker Western mood with their engraved metal toe caps and decorative suede work. A day later, the lighter python Rock boots create contrast against the black jeans and complement the clean white crop top.

That preference for statement ankle boots continued well beyond 2014. When Kendall and Kourtney stepped out together again in West Hollywood in 2018, Kendall grounded ripped black jeans with croc-embossed Givenchy ankle boots, another example of textured footwear doing most of the visual work in an otherwise restrained outfit.

Across these looks, the pattern is remarkably consistent: Kendall keeps the clothing relatively simple, then uses the shape, texture, or finish of the shoes to determine the mood.
